"In Mob We Trust"
2011 Fall/Winter Concert Series
Trust is a funny thing. Clearly, you trust The Art Mob. You all (well, some of you. Not as many as we'd like, but it's not like us to publically remonstrate with the laggards) turn up when we say the concerts will be, trusting that you'll be adequately entertained. We, for the most part, trust that you all (see above) will come out and enjoy yourselves enough to return. Seems like a fair deal.
You trust your banks (really? still?). You trust your spouses/significant others/friends/family/whatever to tell you appropriate truths at appropriate moments. You trust that presidential candidates will remember at least two out of every three over-simplified campaign promises. And, if not you personally, at least your money says it trusts in God.
But if trust is indeed a funny thing, is it a musical thing, too? We think so. You will, too. Trust us.
The Art Mob, an uncommon a cappella
chorus of sixteen-ish mostly intrepid accomplices, has meticulously curated a couple of dozen tunes and scoured the world for a place to
present them. The venue is vintage, and much loved. The songs are new. Well, not new. Most of them are quite old. They're new to us. Mostly. If Von Tilzer makes you tingle, Arlen makes you ardent, and if you can bear lyrics by stiffs with names like Longfellow and Shakespeare (not, admittedly, Art Mob staples but we're trying to class up the joint), there's only one place to be the weekend of December 16-19. Well, two places, but you get the idea.
As ever, we offer our patented promise: You'll be
awed, shocked, appalled, moved, and entertained in equal or variable measure by feats of harmonic derring-do, intended or not,
or double your time back.
Fight your way through the competing crowds of #Occupy and #HolidayConsumption. No drum circles for us. No pepper spray or kettling. Just toe-tapping tunes. But when the concert's over, leave, OK? You can applaud first, sure. But trust us: it's not our fault. Except the music; that is our fault, and we're proud of it. Mostly. But it's not worth demonstrating over, one way or the other.
